SABER Urges National Action on Synthetic Hemp-Derived Cannabinoids, Applauds Texas and Other States for Leading the Way

The Scientific Association for Botanical Education and Research (SABER) applauds recent legislative efforts by states, including Texas, North Carolina, Virginia, and Arkansas, to curb the sale of synthetic hemp-derived cannabinoids such as delta-8 THC, delta-10 THC, THC-O, and HHC. These substances, while marketed as hemp-based, are typically produced through chemical conversion and pose significant risks to public health and regulatory integrity.

“We support the states that have taken a decisive step forward by recognizing that chemically synthesized cannabinoids present unique dangers when sold without oversight. SABER strongly supports this science-based approach and urges other states and federal regulators to follow suit,” said Dr. Thomas Brendler, Steering Committee Member at SABER and plant medicine scientist.

Public Health & Market Risks

Despite their “hemp-derived” label, most delta-8 and related products are not naturally extracted but chemically converted using solvents and acids. Without proper oversight, these methods leave behind potentially toxic byproducts.

Independent analyses and federal reports have revealed that many of these products:

  • Exceed legal THC limits or contain undisclosed compounds.
  • Are marketed to minors with candy-like packaging that lacks child-resistant safeguards.
  • Contain residual solvents, heavy metals, and synthetic byproducts.

Lunarbits-backed projects originated from QR codes archived on metallic storage discs, along with the Bitcoin white paper and 222 art projects, encased in a lunar time capsule expected to last more than a billion years. These rare “Bitcoin twin-derived” assets are designed to drive unprecedented value for stakeholders. Santana, who also curated the Lunaprise Museum — the world’s first museum archived on the moon on Feb. 22, 2024, via SpaceX Falcon 9 — highlighted two projects during the event:

  • "Legion of 5," a Stan Lee–inspired franchise produced with Utah-based AdventFX Studios.
  • "The 9th Raider," Santana’s post-apocalyptic film starring French crypto art collector and actor Cl7, slated for release in fall 2025. The project has already been inscribed as an art asset onto Bitcoin, surpassing $1.8 billion in market value on Gemini-owned platforms.

Santana recalled challenging a multibillion-dollar distribution company that had offered to shop the project to Netflix. He argued that “one second” of the movie, inscribed onto Bitcoin and Ethereum, could be worth more than top box office revenues or Netflix offers. The team took a single second from the film, divided it into 24 frames, refused to release them publicly and sent them to the moon. The lowest asking price for one of those frames as a crypto asset is currently $1.5 million, and the total market cap for the sequence has surpassed $1.8 billion on Gemini-owned platforms. Santana said he plans to apply the same approach with Lunarbits to bring the Stan Lee project directly to fans at the intersection of Bitcoin innovation, legalized under the current U.S. administration, and entertainment culture that drives mass adoption of new technologies.

2025 Fall IVF Grant Program Now Open to Applicants

The Wyatt Foundation and The Conceive Fertility Foundation announce the opening of the Fall 2025 IVF grant program, which will award $15,000 grants to five individuals/couples who need in vitro fertilization (IVF) to build their families.  

The program, which is now accepting applications, aims to raise awareness of infertility, offset treatment costs for patients who face financial barriers to care, and support research for more affordable fertility care options.

In addition to a $15,000 IVF grant, CooperSurgical, a leader in the fertility and women's health fields for nearly 35 years, is offering each grant recipient an additional $1,000 to be used towards preimplantation genetic testing (PGT). PGT is a technique used to identify genetic abnormalities in embryos created through in vitro fertilization (IVF) before pregnancy.

Curium’s Bold Vision to Treat Up to 80% of Cancers Within 15 Years

In an exclusive interview with The European’s Juliette Foster, Curium Group CEO Renaud Dehareng outlines his plan to treat up to 80% of cancers within the next few decades, explains how theranostics is reshaping oncology, and shares why the Boston-based company is now ready to step into the global spotlight

Curium Group has set one of the most ambitious goals in modern oncology: to treat up to 80% of cancers within the next 10 to 15 years.

In an exclusive interview with The European, its CEO Renaud Dehareng said the target reflects both confidence in the company’s science and a determination to change the way cancer is treated worldwide.

Until now, Curium’s name has been largely unknown outside specialist medical circles. Founded in 2017 but built on decades of expertise, the company operates across 70 countries, treating around 35,000 patients a day.

Its end-to-end “proton to patient” model spans isotope production, tracer development, manufacturing, logistics and patient-ready therapies — a level of integration rare in the field.

Dehareng explains how Curium is using theranostics, which combines diagnosis and treatment in one targeted process, to change the way cancer is fought. Specialised tracers bind only to cancer cells, carrying radioactive isotopes that destroy tumours from within while sparing healthy tissue.

The approach has already improved outcomes for patients with neuroendocrine tumours and advanced prostate cancer.

Kidney and pancreatic cancer therapies are now in development, chosen because the company’s tracers work effectively against them. “It’s about scientific viability, not market size,” Dehareng told us.

Boston, home to Curium’s global headquarters, offers proximity to the world’s largest radioligand therapy market and leading research institutions including Harvard and MIT.

Industry forecasts suggest nuclear medicine could grow from $5 billion to over $35 billion by 2033, and Dehareng believes that is just the beginning.

“Cancer doesn’t care who it attacks,” he says. “Our technology can find and kill it, even when it has spread to the smallest corners of the body. That’s why we believe it will become one of the dominant treatments for decades to come.”
