LONDON, United Kingdom, September 20, 2026 (EZ Newswire) -- Zhang Turan, founder of fashion label SUNCUN, is returning to London Fashion Week with the SS2027 collection “Wen Feng Ji Meng,” completing a decade-long path across New York, Paris, London and Milan. The presentation marks the brand’s 10th anniversary and closes a rare four-city fashion-week footprint for a Chinese designer whose work has developed from traditional craft into a contemporary and commercially structured fashion language.

Zhang, also known as Zhang Yan and professionally as Owen Zhang, founded SUNCUN in Shenyang in 2015. Working with traditional fabrics, embroidery, and single-client tailoring, he has built a practice that places intangible cultural heritage within the operating framework of a modern fashion brand.

In February 2019, IMG invited Zhang to New York Fashion Week for “Wuwei Fusheng.” At 24, he was widely reported at the time as the youngest haute couture designer to present there. Coverage by People’s Daily, Phoenix, and The Paper, together with overseas descriptions of his work as “a mysterious power from the East,” gave the young designer visibility well beyond a single runway appearance.

Later in 2019, Zhang presented SS2020 “Shanhai” at the Petit Palais, one of Paris’s most prominent cultural venues, during Paris Fashion Week. He made his first London release with AW2024 “Kaitian” in February 2024, as reported by CRI, and returned to the international circuit seven months later with SS2025 “Bridge” during Milan Fashion Week’s “Keqiao Day.” Coverage from Global Times, China Daily, CRI and Xinhua, alongside a review by Italy’s national fashion chamber, shows how SUNCUN’s exposure expanded across both media and professional fashion institutions.

The significance of this trajectory is not simply that SUNCUN has appeared in four major fashion weeks. It reflects a broader change in how Chinese designers present cultural identity abroad: moving from immediately recognizable motifs and “symbol stacking” toward craftsmanship, silhouette, and underlying cultural ideas. Zhang’s work has attracted attention because it treats Chinese heritage not as decoration, but as a source of design logic.

That approach carries into SS2027. Built around the phrase “Use wind as traces, dream as messages,” the collection treats wind as the movement of worldly events and dreams as a microcosm of floating life. Rather than reproducing landscapes or stacking cultural motifs, Zhang uses flowing silhouettes, layered construction, virtual-and-real contrasts, and negative space to translate Eastern philosophy into a contemporary wardrobe. The result is a more restrained visual language designed to reduce cultural distance while retaining a clear point of view.

“The beauty of Eastern clothing is not just the style; it is the Eastern philosophy itself,” Zhang said. “Chinese clothing has been fashionable for thousands of years; suits have only been popular for 70 years.”

The same shift is visible in SUNCUN’s business model. Zhang has moved traditional craft beyond one-off couture pieces into ready-to-wear while retaining single-client tailoring and collaborations with Chinese and French embroidery workshops. This creates a bridge between the highly individual nature of couture and the repeatability required by a broader fashion business. Celebrity styling has helped generate visibility, while the product structure extends that attention into retail and everyday dressing.

In 2020, Zhang added La brocart, also known as Chengyi Bureau, with a focus on minimalist luxury. TURANZZ followed in 2023 around the idea of being able to “rest inside your clothes.” Together, the two labels extend SUNCUN’s design principles into different price and usage contexts, allowing the brand to preserve its craft foundation while reaching consumers beyond the couture client.

Zhang’s return to London comes two years after his first release there and marks what SUNCUN describes as its 10th-anniversary presentation. More importantly, it completes a route that began with New York and Paris, continued through London and Milan, and now returns to London with a more developed design and business proposition. SUNCUN’s four-city trajectory positions Zhang as part of a growing generation of Chinese designers seeking to participate in the international fashion system on the basis of their own cultural and commercial language.
