Smartling, the LanguageAI™ translation company, today announced the appointment of Lina Tonk as chief marketing officer. Tonk brings more than two decades of experience leading marketing for high-growth software companies and a proven track record of building the marketing organizations that help companies reach their next stage of scale.

As CMO, Tonk will lead Smartling’s global marketing strategy, shaping how the company brings its platform, innovation, and vision to market. She will focus on strengthening Smartling’s position as the leader in AI-powered translation while accelerating demand, elevating the brand, and deepening relationships with customers and partners around the world as enterprises increasingly rely on AI to power global experiences.

“Lina has a strong track record of helping software companies sharpen their story, elevate their brand, and translate marketing into real commercial growth,” said Bryan Murphy, CEO of Smartling. “She builds high-performing teams, connects deeply with customers, and brings the strategic clarity companies need at moments of scale. As our growth accelerates, I’m excited for the impact she will have as we continue helping global companies deliver meaningful experiences in every language.”

Tonk most recently served as CMO at Recurly, where she led marketing for one of the subscription industry’s most recognized platforms. Before that, she was CMO at isolved, a leader in human capital management software. Across both companies, she developed a reputation for building customer- and partner-centric teams and driving brand visibility and commercial growth at scale. Her work has led to recognition including Pavilion’s “50 CMOs to Watch in 2025” and The Chief Women Leaders Magazine’s “Influential 50: Female Executives in Business, 2026”, among other accolades.

“What drew me to Smartling is how long the company has been innovating in AI,” said Tonk. “AI is not new here. Smartling has been shaping this space for years, and the strength of the platform goes beyond speed to deliver translation quality that preserves meaning, brand voice, and compliance across markets. That combination is incredibly powerful for global companies today. What makes this opportunity even more exciting is the chance to help build something truly impactful alongside such a knowledgeable and enthusiastic team.”

Tonk’s arrival comes on the heels of a strong year for Smartling. In January 2026, the company reported that AI and AI-human translation grew 218% in 2025, as enterprises moved from AI experimentation to production deployment at scale. The company also launched several new platform capabilities in 2025, including AI Hub, AI Post-Editing Agent, and automatic hallucination detection, with its LQA Agent set to follow later this year.
