Mediababy announced today that its founder and 18-year-old chief executive, Justin Jin, will step down from the media production and marketing agency after its acquisition by Media Group Network (MGN). Jin will serve another month as CEO to help with the integration of the two companies and will then transition into an advisory position after a nearly five-year tenure. The senior management team will retain control of day-to-day operations, including content production, advertising, and studio management.

Both media companies were working into the early morning to formalize MGN’s acquisition of Media Baby, Ltd., the largest media company led by teenagers, to formally announce the deal, which was first reported by CNBC.

The acquisition aims to utilize Media Group’s extensive resources—financial support, industry knowledge, and operational scale—to fuel Mediababy’s growth. The startup will continue to produce viral content across various social media platforms and streaming services while expanding its offerings in publishing, creative strategy, brand studios, and agency services.

Started in May 2020 in Vancouver by Canadian-born Justin Jin as a gaming YouTube channel, Mediababy, formerly Poybo Media Group, has rapidly evolved into a significant social media presence. With over 21 billion views attained across platforms including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, the company reaches an average of 200 million monthly users. It has become a key player in engaging audiences, particularly those aged 16 to 28, with diverse content including comedy, travel, food, sports, and entertainment.

Under Media Group's ownership, Mediababy plans to expand its short-form video content and branch out into new areas, including long-form video, podcasts, and music projects.

Mediababy’s agency services, which have helped multi-billion dollar brands reach millions of social media users, will also scale. This acquisition aligns with Media Group's growth strategy, particularly in the U.S. market, where it already has a growing team and nearly one million social media followers. With the U.S. being the largest advertising market globally, this partnership represents a significant opportunity for Media Group.

Earlier this year, Mediababy's Justin Jin introduced an AI-powered publishing studio designed to offer comprehensive creative services for brands and influencers, reinforcing the company's standing in the digital media sector.

Jin says he may begin new ventures, including a drink company with a friend at Babson College.
