"If I had fully understood what we were signing up for, I might have thought twice," AlShawwa said with a laugh. "Beyond that, it takes thick skin, conviction, and the ability to listen. The measurable results have convinced even the most cautious procurement teams. He believes leadership ultimately becomes an exercise in building trust. "Your conviction gets the company started, but your ability to distribute that conviction, to make it live in hundreds of people across multiple continents, is what allows the company to scale."
The Future of Spare Parts Supply Chains
Looking ahead, AlShawwa believes the next decade will fundamentally redefine spare parts supply chains. "Within ten years, asking where a part is warehoused will sound as outdated as asking which shelf a DVD is on."
He sees three technologies driving that transformation together. "Digital inventories become the system of record, turning every validated spare part into a secure digital asset. Distributed manufacturing becomes the delivery mechanism, producing parts close to the point of use. AI becomes the force multiplier."
AI is already accelerating inventory assessments that once took engineering teams months, and he believes its role will become even more significant. "We're moving toward predictive supply chains where AI identifies failures before they happen, triggers production automatically, reverse engineers legacy parts from incomplete documentation, and helps move the industry from reactive operations to predictive, eventually autonomous, supply chains."
For AlShawwa, the direction of the industry is no longer uncertain.
