Hack for Humanity Kicks Off Across 120+ Chapters in 50+ Countries

Hack for Humanity is the culmination of Soul Summer, the global series of community programming that began with Humans in AI Week in June, a celebration that reached 250,000 people across 100+ events. That week was about naming what AI is changing in the places they live. Hack for Humanity is where they start building the answers, and it will run for a full two months beginning today through the end of October.
A conversation about whether AI serves people only goes so far. Today, in more than 50 countries, The AI Collective's chapters start building.
"Three months ago our communities told us what problems they were facing with AI," said AJ Green, President and Executive Director of The AI Collective. "Today we start creating solutions to those problems. The way we see it, the very best thing we can do is take our technical skills and direct them at making change in our local ecosystems."
Across Humans in AI Week, members of The AI Collective shared consistent concerns related to AI’s real-world impact: job displacement, technical literacy, and accessibility. During Hack for Humanity, individual chapters will build around those themes while also setting challenges of their own, based on what their cities and neighbors care about most.
Hack for Humanity is deliberately built without a commercial outcome in mind. The AI Collective is not asking anyone to promote a product, validate a company strategy, or build toward a predetermined answer. Instead, we start from a simpler premise: what problems are worth solving, and what can this many people actually do about them?
“AI is lowering the barriers to knowledge," said Catherine McMillan, Chief Operating Officer of The AI Collective. “We know the problems our communities care about. Now that we're giving access to the tools, we're excited to see what happens when thousands of people are given the space to actually work on them."
Supporting that work are MLH, Google, Lovable, Snowflake, and Databricks, with Build Club joining as a community partner. Their role is to help participants access the tools, technical resources, and communities that can help turn an idea into something real, while leaving the problems and solutions in the hands of the people building them.
Over the next two months, that experiment will play out across communities around the world. Whatever emerges will be shaped by the people closest to the problems, building for the places they know best.
