SAN DIEGO, CA, August 14, 2026 (EZ Newswire) -- Backland Labs hosted a hands-on AI workshop for transitioning service members and recent veterans in San Diego, helping participants develop practical skills for a workplace increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.

The workshop introduced participants to Claude Cowork and showed them how AI can support research, organization, professional communication, and repetitive administrative work. No previous experience with Claude or other AI tools was required.

Rather than focusing on presentations or general AI theory, the session gave participants time to work directly with the technology. Attendees learned practical principles for using AI effectively, identified tasks that could benefit from AI assistance, and received individual support as they built their own workflows and automations.

The workshop covered:

  • The changing role of AI in professional work
  • The fundamentals of Claude Cowork
  • Practical guidelines for using AI effectively and responsibly
  • How to recognize repetitive or time-consuming work that may be suitable for automation
  • Open build time for creating useful workflows
  • Individual support for overcoming technical and workflow challenges

Participants explored how AI could assist with tasks relevant to the transition from military to civilian work, including researching career paths, translating military experience into language employers understand, preparing professional materials, organizing complex information, and improving recurring work processes.

Service members already bring valuable skills to civilian organizations, including adaptability, disciplined execution, rapid learning, and the ability to solve problems under pressure. The workshop was designed to help participants apply those strengths while becoming more comfortable with a new generation of workplace tools.

The event was hosted by Max Krueger, founder of Backland Labs, and by Claude Community and Anthropic. Krueger previously worked at Accenture, where he helped establish early generative AI teams focused on cybersecurity applications. He also organizes the AI Tinkerers San Diego community.

Backland Labs is exploring opportunities to provide additional practical AI workshops for transitioning service members and recent veterans. The company welcomes conversations with veteran-serving organizations, employers, sponsors, and community partners interested in hosting or supporting future programs.
