In March, The Rauch Review, the literary and cultural publication founded by Joseph Rauch, expanded its scope to include poetry book reviews and original poetry submissions. The brand publication now has a dedicated freelance poetry editor who writes poetry book reviews and edits poems. To avoid being flooded with pitches, Rauch’s team has decided to keep this editor’s identity anonymous.
The Rauch Review pays a minimum of $100 for all published pieces, including poems. Their policy is to not run ads on all pieces considered “creative writing.”
Most poetry book reviews will be well-known titles decided on without input from contributors. Nonetheless, The Rauch Review team does consider requested poetry book reviews at a fee of $300 from the requesting author. The fee is negotiable depending on financial circumstances, timing, and business partnership agreements.
When The Rauch Review launched in 2024, its original categories were:
- Articles about the world of literature, the craft of writing, book lists and politics
- Book beviews of modern literary classics such as “Never Let Me Go” and “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” as well as political nonfiction titles like “America: The Farewell Tour” and “The Real Anthony Fauci”
- Original creative nonfiction pieces such as “Fat” and “The Dated, Sexist Book That Changed My Writing Career”
- Original short fiction pieces such as “The Doll Hospital” and “A Game of Cards and Whiskey”
Founder Joseph Rauch said, “I wanted poetry book reviews and poems there from the beginning, but I didn’t have enough connections or knowledge of the craft.”
Between 2023 and 2025, Rauch periodically searched for a poetry editor, with no luck. In February 2025, author and Rauch Review contributor Sonya Matejko requested a review of her poetry book, "Everlasting Spring: 101 Poems for Every Season of Life." This request motivated Rauch to once again search for a poetry editor who could develop the categories of poetry book reviews and poems, and this time he was successful.
