LOS ANGELES, CA -- Our Authors Study Club (OASC) is pleased to announce its 73rd citywide Black History Month celebration, in partnership with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and the Chair of Black History Month, Mike Davis of the Board of Public Works. This year's theme is "Black Resistance in the Past, Present, and Future."

“We are elated to partner with Madam Mayor Karen Bass,” said OASC President Lura Daniels-Ball. “It is a privilege to share this historic moment in time with her as we amplify Black History Month with incredible programs that are both virtual and in-person and curated to include panels, discussions, author book talks, and recognition of inspirational legends and icons."

Throughout the month of February, OASC will host a variety of virtual and in-person programs, co-curated by President Lura Daniels-Ball. These programs will include panels, discussions, author book talks, and recognition of influential legends and icons. The celebration will kick-off on Thursday, February 2nd at 6:30 PM with the Annual Round Table, hosted by Eyewitness News' Marc Brown, featuring notable scholars such as Dr. Maulana Karenga, Dr. Julianne Malveaux, Dr. Donna Nicol, Dr. Boris Ricks, and Dr. Francille Rusan Wilson.

The celebration will also include an opening ceremony on February 3rd, where living legends such as Ice Cube, Erica Campbell, Marilyn McCoo, and Billy Davis Jr. will be honored, as well as Hall of Fame Honorees, including Law - The Honorable Eric Holder, Former U.S. Attorney General (retired); Labor - Yvonne Wheeler, President, Los Angeles County Federation of Labor; Higher Education/Medicine - Dr. David Carlisle, President, Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science; and Government - The Honorable Herb Wesson, Jr., the first African American President of the Los Angeles City Council (retired).

On February 21st, OASC will host a virtual evening with African American authors, featuring Tamika Mallory, Nickole Hannah-Jones, Kevin Powell, and Aaron Phillip Clark, and presenting the OASC Trailblazer Award to Dr. Donald Singleton, AP African Studies Instructor at Dorsey High School. OASC is honored to partner with Mayor Karen Bass and a host of civic, community, clergy, and business leaders to make these programs available to the community.
