Advocates warn that this unlawful government overreach is creating fear and confusion, and denies consumers access to a harm-reduction tool they rely on to manage their daily lives.

Last month, Los Angeles County issued a press release linking three tragic deaths to 7-OH. Yet weeks later, the County has failed to produce evidence that 7-OH caused these deaths. The County’s own medical examiner reports show multiple substances, including excessive alcohol, and do not list 7-OH as the cause of death. Officials have also refused to publicly release toxicology levels or product packaging that could confirm what substances were involved.

“This is government overreach at its worst,” said Jackie Subeck, founder of 7-HOPE Alliance. “When the FDA is already under fire from both Democrats and Republicans for politicizing science, from vaccines to dietary supplements, it’s reckless for California to take cues from them without peer-reviewed evidence and taking action that will put lives at risk.”

While this overreach by the government is alone concerning, dozens of experts recently came out against bans, sounding the alarm that these actions are putting lives at risk:

• Doctors for Drug Policy Reform: “Banning 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) will predictably endanger public health by pushing individuals toward unregulated products of unknown potency and possible contamination.”
• Dr. Kirsten Smith, Johns Hopkins University: “There is not sufficient scientific information or data to meet the criteria for scheduling…people will find something else to use if this is banned and those alternatives may be more harmful than 7-OH.”
• Dr. Jeffrey Singer, Cato Institute (USA Today): “The choice is clear: Either let 7-OH fall into the hands of cartels or regulate it to reduce harm. America doesn’t need another fentanyl crisis, especially one caused by our own actions.”
• Grunt Style Foundation (Veterans): “Taking 7-OH off the legal market doesn’t make veterans safer.”

California health departments are acting as if a ban on 7-OH already exists. It does not. Their seizures and red tags are leaving patients and consumers without access to a product that, for many, is the only safe option.

An unusual event took place in Ukraine that bridged the gap between traditional sports and esports: the "Match of LeGGends: Derby on a Server" show match. For the first time ever, the legendary Ukrainian football club Dynamo Kyiv took on the most successful Ukrainian esports organization NAVI in a Counter-Strike 2 match. Opioid addiction, including dependence on substances such as fentanyl and heroin, is widely acknowledged as a global public health and social safety challenge. While conventional substitution therapies can mitigate withdrawal symptoms, they often fail to fully address psychological cravings, which are key drivers of relapse. A recent clinical study from China may offer a novel therapeutic strategy for this issue.

Yifan Pharmaceutical recently announced the successful completion of its Phase 1b clinical trial for Duanjin Jiedu Capsules, an independently developed formulation, confirming that the study met its predefined objectives.

Available data indicate that the drug is specifically designed for the prevention of relapse in opioid use disorder. Its primary active components are derived from two traditional Chinese medicinal herbs: Gelsemium elegans and Datura stramonium. The proposed clinical indication is “syndrome of residual toxin accumulation and blood stasis due to opioid abuse,” with pharmacological effects targeting both detoxification and relapse prevention.

Results from the Phase 1b trial show that Duanjin Jiedu Capsules demonstrated favorable safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetic profiles in individuals undergoing recovery from opioid addiction. Compared with the placebo group, the treatment group showed a consistent trend toward improved outcomes in relapse prevention, behavioral regulation and overall rehabilitation quality.

Current standard treatments for opioid addiction predominantly rely on substitution therapies such as methadone and buprenorphine, which require prolonged administration and carry risks of dependency transfer. In contrast, Duanjin Jiedu Capsules are administered over a short 21-day course yet appear to confer sustained protection against relapse, offering a viable pathway for patients to reintegrate into normal life. Researchers hypothesize that this breakthrough profile — characterized as “short-term dosing with long-term preventive effects” — may be attributed to the drug’s potential modulation of the central nervous system’s reward circuitry.

Industry experts suggest that if further clinical validation is successful, Duanjin Jiedu Capsules could represent a pioneering traditional Chinese medicine-based solution for relapse prevention in opioid addiction, contributing a distinctive “Chinese model” to global public health strategies.
