The Philos Project and Partner Organizations Introduce Abraham's Missing Child Initiative to Bipartisan Members of Congress

On July 13, 2022, the Philos Project, In Defense of Christians, the American Sephardi Federation, and the Mimouna Association met with Members of Congress on Capitol Hill to present the Abraham's Missing Child initiative.

Congressional offices represented included Representatives Lisa McClain (R-MI), David Valadao (R-CA), Grace Meng (D-NY), Daniel Webster (R-FL), and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), an inaugural co-chair of the bicameral, bipartisan congressional Abraham Accords Caucus.

The Abraham Accords, initiated in 2020, charted a new course in the history of Arab-Israeli relations, with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco agreeing to fully recognize and normalize diplomatic relations with the State of Israel.

The Abraham's Missing Child initiative was launched by the Philos Project in May 2022, in cooperation with partner organizations, including In Defense of Christians, the American Sephardi Federation, the Hellenic American Leadership Council, and the Iraqi Christian Relief Council and Sharaka, to ensure the Near East's ancient Christian communities are represented in a rapidly changing and dynamic Middle East. Recent strategic developments and diplomatic progress have created unprecedented opportunities for regional peace, physical security, and economic prosperity. The Abraham's Missing Child initiative seeks to make space for the Near East's endangered Christian communities to join their Muslim and Jewish neighbors in contributing to, and benefitting from, this sustained peace and prosperity.

"The Abraham Accords marked an incredible first step towards securing peace in the Middle East. But we must ensure Christians in the region are not forgotten in the process," said Congresswoman Lisa McClain, adding, "I applaud the Philos Project, and their partners, for their work on this critical issue, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress to help turn this initiative into a reality."

According to Richard Ghazal, Executive Director of In Defense of Christians, "Our task is to seize on the positive momentum started by the Abraham Accords and guide it for the good of the entire region—including the ancient and endangered Christian communities—to secure a sustainable peace in the Middle East."

Jason Guberman, Executive Director of the American Sephardi Federation, shared, "We are grateful for the support of so many members of Congress who prioritize the value of pluralism. When cities like Alexandria, Baghdad, and Constantine were home to a mixed multitude of Jews, Christians, and other minorities, the region was at its most peaceful and prosperous. Ensuring that Christians have a seat at the Abraham Accords' table is essential to returning the region to economic, social, and spiritual success."

"The Philos Project is grateful to the Members of Congress and their staffs who met with the Abraham's Missing Child coalition. The trend toward peace among the Abrahamic peoples will lead to greater regional stability and economic opportunity in the years to come," said Andrew Doran, Senior Research Fellow at the Philos Project.

National Summer Learning Association Joins Partnership to Engage Every Student

U.S. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona today announced that the National Summer Learning Association will join dozens of organizations in a new partnership to ensure that all children have access to high-quality learning opportunities outside of school.

Cardona announced the Engage Every Student Initiative at an event celebrating National Summer Learning Week at the U.S. Department of Education (ED) headquarters, where youth and their mentors from across the country described how learning activities are helping their academic progress during the summer. The Secretary encouraged the partnership to take bold action to provide access to high-quality afterschool programs and summer learning activities.

"It is an honor to join other advocates for out-of-school learning to address the critical need to make up for lost learning during the pandemic," said Aaron Dworkin, the executive director of the National Summer Learning Association. "Through camps, library programs, and other engaging activities, children can continue their learning adventure during the summer and prepare to excel when they return to school in the fall."

For the new initiative, the U.S. Department of Education will invest $3.4 million to provide best practices in program implementation for summer and out-of-school time. ED's Institute for Education Sciences will create a new tool to support using evidence to implement afterschool and summer learning activities.

"For decades, researchers have documented the 'learning loss' that happens when children are out of school for more than two months as they wait for the next school year to begin," Dworkin said. "During the pandemic, education researchers have documented similar learning loss in children who attended school in virtual environments for a year or more. Today, out-of-school learning is more important than ever."

NSLA Programs Address Students' Needs

This summer, NSLA has created new and innovative ways to help students of all ages extend their learning experiences during the summer months.

More than 30 youth from award-wining summer learning programs were selected to meet this week at the inaugural NSLA Youth Leadership Institute. In a unique program, youth are experiencing the best of summer camps that focus on social emotional learning; academic success; arts; health and fitness; and service and leadership.

The 8 and 9 graders, and their program leaders, met with their congressional leaders on Thursday before meeting with the US Secretary of Education.

Working with the American Camp Association and with the support of the New York Life Foundation, NSLA is supporting a free summer camp experience for children from 10 low-income communities. The camps are partnering with local schools to provide intentional learning programs where students develop life skills such as problem-solving, leadership, and communication. The New York Life Foundation has provided funding to expand the program in 2023.

In partnership with the NBA Foundation, NSLA has secured paid internships in the U.S. Congress for 10 college-age students and recent college graduates from minority backgrounds. The internships will give students of color a prestigious experience on their resumes that will help launch their careers. In addition to a stipend, the program pays for housing, travel to Washington, and food and clothing.

NSLA joins the Education Department and the Afterschool Alliance, the National Comprehensive Center at Westat, the National League of Cities, and AASA, the School Superintendents Association as coordinating partners for Engage Every Student. More than 20 allied organizations have signed on including the National Governors Association, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, the American Camp Association, and the Y.

Timberwolf Whiskey Launches Barrel-Aged Bourbon Brand

A new bourbon brand just burst onto the scene with an homage to people who favor outdoor living and a satisfying drink.

Timberwolf Whiskey is now exclusively available online at https://timberwolfwhiskey.com. The new company is in the market for regional distribution.

"Our first product was just bottled last month," said founder Rob Thomas. "Our first plan is to expand local distribution state-by-state across the country."

Timberwolf Whiskey is a 94-proof bourbon with what Thomas calls "a distinctive bold, peppery flavor for sipping straight or mixing. Being from the pacific northwest, our brand demographic is people who enjoy the outdoors, mountains and nature."

Crafted in small batches and barrel-aged, Timberwolf Whiskey's ingredients are 60% corn, 35% rye and 5% barley. "Obviously, being an aged bourbon, we do source barrels from other distillers," Thomas noted.

What inspired a Vancouver-born Canadian techie to create a new bourbon? Thomas said the idea came to him when he was on a road trip and literally came up dry.

"While road tripping through North American ski towns, I kept being disappointed at a culture that seemed to focus on cheap draught beer and cinnamon flavored whiskey shooters," he said.

"Bourbon is my favorite whiskey to drink, and it was important to me that a new product would also be something that I would enjoy," he said. "We applied our passion for mountain sports and the outdoors to create a quality whiskey that can be enjoyed after a hard day's work."

It took a few months for Thomas to perfect the formulation. But he kept working at it, determined to create a new bourbon for a market that's already booming.

"Bourbon remains a spirit that drives strong retail sales — especially in October, November, and December," according to BevAlc Insights' bourbon forecast last year.

BevAlc Insights is a resource for data and insights about the beverage alcohol industry and growing ecommerce sector.

"In 2021, the sales volume of whiskey in the United States amounted to 76 million 9-liter cases," Statista reported in February 2022.

Save Farmland Announces Partnership with Under the Big Sky Music Festival, New Board Members, $2.35M Land Donation

Save Farmland, a new Montana nonprofit organization that protects agricultural land while strengthening local food systems, announced today a long-term partnership with the Under the Big Sky Festival to raise awareness and funds.

The five-year partnership makes Save Farmland the official nonprofit of the event, working closely with festival leadership to create awareness and money-raising opportunities for its programs through music and arts. The partnership kicks off at this year's event on July 15th through the 17th in Whitefish, Montana, where Save Farmland merchandise will be sold throughout the event, with 100% of proceeds going to its cause.

"Our team is extremely excited to partner with Save Farmland to help protect agricultural and ranch land across the Flathead Valley," said Johnny Shockey, CEO of Outrider's Present, and owner of Under the Big Sky Festival. "We're starting with merchandise this year, and hope to expand to benefit shows and other creative fundraising opportunities in the years to come for this important cause."

Save Farmland also announced the first three members of its Board of Directors, which includes Shockey:

  • Scot Chisholm, Chairman and co-founder of Haskill Creek Farms, and founder of online fundraising software company, Classy (now an affiliate of GoFundMe);
  • Robin Kelson, Executive Director of AERO (Alternative Energy Resources Organization) and CEO and owner of The Good Seed Company;
  • Johnny Shockey, CEO of Outrider's Present, which owns Under the Big Sky Music Festival and a portfolio of other investments in the music and arts industry

Other organizations that have been integral to Save Farmland's early strategic planning include North Valley Food Bank, Land to Hand Montana, Wicked Good Produce, Two Bear Farm, and the FVCC (Flathead Valley Community College) Agriculture Program.

"Over the past twelve months, we've been talking with local nonprofit leaders, the farming community, and city officials to shape the vision for Save Farmland," said Robin Kelson, Save Farmland Board Director. "The question we've been asking is: How do we increase production of healthy local food in our community? Through these conversations, a dual mission emerged: one part land conservation and the other part a focus on programs that strengthen sustainable local food production, distribution, and access."

To kick off its first capital campaign, Save Farmland also announced a $2.35 million land donation by Whitefish residents Scot and Carrie Chisholm, with Scot also serving on the Board of Directors.

The 40-acre plot is located on the north side of Voerman Road, less than five minutes from downtown Whitefish, MT. It will serve as Save Farmland's first "Farm Hub", which includes an incubator program for new farmers, and resources for seasoned farmers to support existing food production and distribution.

"The goal of the Farm Hub is to provide farmers with a comprehensive path to success, including access to land and infrastructure, continuing education and sales distribution," said Scot Chisholm, Chairman at Save Farmland. "Flathead Valley has seen unprecedented growth in the last couple of years, so it's critically important that we continue to invest in the local food system to ensure that our community has healthy organic food for years to come."

The land donation on Voerman Road will also serve the broader Whitefish community, with plans for a large community garden and demonstration farm, a farmer's market, cooking and gardening classes, and public access to walking and bike paths throughout.

Concept drawings for the Farm Hub are underway, and Save Farmland's first capital campaign will continue to roll out this summer to raise money and awareness.

Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning Announces Third Early Childhood Resource Center

Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning (CHS) has announced that it plans to build its third Early Childhood Resource Center in Middletown, Pennsylvania, near the intersection of Oberlin and Fulling Mill Roads. The cost-free Center will serve 150 children from birth to age 5 from economically disadvantaged and at-risk backgrounds.

The planned Center, which will include an innovation studio and a science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) garden, is part of a $350 million initiative to initially develop six cost-free ECRCs as subsidiaries of Milton Hershey School.

"This marks an important step in expanding our early childhood education initiative and honoring the Hersheys' legacy by serving even more Pennsylvania children. The Middletown location is another opportunity for us to address the critical and growing need for accessible, high-quality early learning programming," said Milton Hershey School and Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning President Pete Gurt.

All CHS Centers, including this Middletown location, will offer a non-residential, year-round core learning program with curriculum designed to enhance children's educational, social, and emotional development. It also will provide children with nutritious meals, transportation, and other needed supplies, along with integrated support services to families of enrolled children through a dedicated family resource center.

"Middletown is a prime location for our program and holistic approach to early education. We look forward to serving children and families at this broadly accessible location, addressing the kindergarten readiness gap between low-income and higher-income children from surrounding urban and rural communities," explained CHS Executive Director Senate Alexander.

The Middletown Center is expected to have up to 80 employees and volunteers and be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays when the Center opens in 2025. The first Center, located in Hershey, Pennsylvania, is currently under construction and scheduled to open next year. The second Center, CHS Harrisburg, is expected to open in 2024. Lemon Perfect Appoints Jim Brennan as President and Chief Revenue Officer

Lemon Perfect, the fastest-growing brand in the enhanced  water category*, announced today the hiring of former Coca-Cola Company executive Jim Brennan as President and Chief Revenue Officer.

Lemon Perfect Founder and CEO Yanni Hufnagel says Brennan is a transformational sales leader  who will be instrumental in developing and implementing plans for driving future growth and  profitability. "Lemon Perfect is disrupting the enhanced water category by offering a better-for you, better-tasting product that is resonating broadly with the American consumer," Hufnagel  said. "Today is a monumental day for Lemon Perfect. Jim is a best-in-industry sales executive  and passionate people leader whose experience is unsurpassed. His sales strategy will drive  revenue and profit while accelerating Lemon Perfect's rise toward its goal of becoming the  number one brand in the multibillion-dollar enhanced water category by market share."

Brennan joined Atlanta-based Lemon Perfect as a Board Member and Operating Advisor in April  2021 after concluding a 32-year run across various sales roles at The Coca-Cola Company and  Coca-Cola Enterprises. Brennan's day-to-day advisory played a key role in quadrupling Lemon  Perfect's revenue in 2021. In his last role at Coca-Cola as Executive Vice President, National  Retail Sales, Brennan led total customer management and the strategic selling vision for the top  national retail customers across multiple channels of trade. In the role, Brennan was  responsible for an $8B+ beverage portfolio and was heralded for his focus on developing people  and talent.

"After retiring from The Coca-Cola Company, I thought my full-time roles were complete," said  Brennan. "Then I met Yanni. I was motivated by his passion, vision, and unwavering  commitment to changing the beverage landscape and making a healthier option accessible to  all. Lemon Perfect is simply the best-tasting zero sugar product on the market and has  unlimited growth potential. I am honored to lead the highly talented, energized Lemon Perfect  team that is charging the hill every day with our distributor partners across the country. We are  going to have fun scaling this great brand!"

"Jim is a seasoned beverage industry rockstar," said former Bai Brands Chief Operating Officer  and Lemon Perfect Board Member Barak Bar-Cohen. "It is rare to find someone with Jim's  experience, sales prowess, and tenacity who has the passion and drive to lead a commercial organization through triple-digit hypergrowth. On behalf of the Board, I would like to congratulate Yanni and Jim on this exciting new chapter in the Lemon Perfect journey. We are  all delighted to have Jim in the C-suite alongside Yanni and the rest of the Lemon Perfect team."

In April, the Company announced the closing of a $31 million Series A headlined by internationally celebrated award-winning artist and entrepreneur Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. The  financing brought Lemon Perfect's total valuation to over $100 million in less than three years  from the Company's selling its first bottle.

DivInc Houston Launches Inaugural Women in Tech Accelerator with Title Sponsor SheSpace

DivInc, the premier startup accelerator for people of color and women entrepreneurs, is proud to announce the launch of its first Women in Tech Accelerator made possible through Houston title sponsor, SheSpace.

DivInc's Fall 2022 Women in Tech Accelerator fueled by SheSpace supports women-led startups approaching industry challenges in innovative ways. The program is designed to address the challenges unique to female founders, including dependent care, in addition to providing the access to capital, mentors/advisors, and networks that DivInc programming is known for.

"Women-led companies are vastly underfunded by venture capital. This is a huge inequity, but it is also a huge missed opportunity for the VC community. Private technology companies led by women are more capital-efficient, achieving 35% higher ROI, and, when venture-backed, 12% higher revenue than startups run by men, according to the Kauffman Foundation," said Preston L. James II, DivInc Co-Founder and CEO. "DivInc is dedicated to creating the spaces and providing the resources women founders need to thrive. It's good for women founders and for the ecosystem as a whole."

DivInc's collaboration with SheSpace and women leaders in the Houston area will be the key to the long term success of this accelerator program and its founders.

"SheSpace leapt at the chance to partner with DivInc's Women in Tech Accelerator as women tenaciously look for responses to the systemic and unfortunate track record of underfunded women entrepreneurs and founders. No meaningful change can occur unless the people who are affected are part of the solution. Now is time to give the abundance of women with talent and potential surrounding us a head start in the founder ecosystem. This needs to be done by women who have already navigated it" said Stephanie Tsuru, Founder of SheSpace." "SheSpace is where forward-thinking females gather to embrace the power, persistence, and passion of working women. It is time to widen our net, and this accelerator is a good place to start."

Throughout the accelerator, SheSpace will work with the DivInc team on programming and thought leadership initiatives.

In total, 10 companies will be accepted to the 12-week program which will run from September through December 2022 and will be hosted at SheSpace and The Ion. Upon completion of the program, each participating company will receive $10,000 non-dilutive seed funding provided by SheSpace.

The Fall 2022 Women in Tech Accelerator fueled by SheSpace is also supported by Houston premier partners, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., Verizon, The Ion, and Mercury.

Revaly offers an approachable user experience for hi-fidelity design conversations that result in happier teams and more productive organizations."

In January, ZVerse offered Revaly in a closed beta program for organizations from the biotech, industrial manufacturing services, consumer products and education sectors.  Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corp., a leading manufacturer of generic respiratory medications, became an early adopter of Revaly for use by their rapidly expanding engineering and manufacturing teams.

"At Nephron, collaboration between our engineers, machine shop technicians, suppliers and the production floor is critical to keeping our medications shipping to customers.  Revaly streamlines design conversations between our departments better than anything we've tried.  Our team loves how easy it is to use and how much time it saves them in design cycles.  Revaly will save our company millions of dollars by having better design feedback earlier in the process," said Lou Kennedy, Owner and CEO of Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corporation

Bringing Design Reviews into the Modern Era

As remote work has become more ubiquitous, asynchronous collaboration tools for ideation, workflows and huddling have exploded onto the market.  However, 80% of engineers still rely on a combination of email, screenshots and PDFs to collaborate with their product development teams or clients. Communicating on 3D models is complex due to file sizes, software requirements to view, technical skill sets and security considerations.

"Collaborative engineering and seamless knowledge transfer are the keys to innovation in manufacturing design. Revaly enables true asynchronous design collaboration in a way that is impossible to achieve through email and slide presentations," said Ramy Harik, PhD., Chief Manufacturing Officer at Nephron Pharmaceuticals.

Alchemie Earns $1M Grant for Accessible Learning for STEM

Alchemie, an educational technology company based in Troy, Michigan, today announced it has received a prestigious one-million-dollar Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant from the Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences (IES), to bring to market the Kasi Learning System. SBIR grants are awarded to startups building game-changing technologies with the potential for positive impact on society.

Kasi is a system which uses multi-sensory augmented reality to create pathways for all students, and especially those with blindness or low vision (BLV), to explore and learn chemistry and science.

The Kasi system is a web-based software application that combines tactile manipulatives with computer vision algorithms to allow the manipulatives to "talk" to students to provide guidance as students learn STEM concepts. Instead of a mouse or a touchpad, the Kasi manipulatives, embossed with braille and other symbols, provide an alternative user interface for Alchemie's interactive learning software.

The goal is to create a learning system that is "born accessible," and deliver accommodations for differently abled learners as a key feature, not as an add-on to the product. Since most BLV students are more likely to receive instruction in mainstream classes, Kasi helps to build inclusiveness and confidence for BLV students and increase academic persistence in STEM courses.

"With the shift to all-digital learning tools which rely more on visual interactions, blind science students have an even more difficult time keeping up with content," said Julia Winter, Alchemie founder. "With the STEM skills learned from tools like Kasi, BLV youngsters are more likely to have the confidence to continue on into good science-oriented careers."

Through partnerships with leading education publishers Alchemie integrates their innovative learning tools, including Kasi, into content and homework systems, creating a truly accessible learning experience for all students.

With $125,000 in additional funding from the Michigan Emerging Technology Fund, the Alchemie team plans to design and manufacture inclusive packaging and the Kasi tactile pieces in the Traverse City area of Northwest Michigan.

Exponent Beauty, Self-Activated Skincare Pioneer, Unveils New Active Powder: Time Rewind Retinol

Exponent Beauty, officially launched this past April 2022 as the first self-activated, fresh clinical skincare line, introduces its newest Active Powder to join its skincare lineup this June– Time Rewind Retinol Powder.

Exponent's patented self-activated skincare line quickly dispenses a precise dose of both Active Powder and Quadruple Hyaluronic Acid Hydrator, creating a freshly-whipped Superior Serum with a light gel-cream texture. By mixing an Active Powder complex with the Hydrator, there are no jars, tubes, or bottles of formulas past their prime, just a convenient, single-dose application in under eight seconds.

Unlike traditional water-based skincare formulas that start degrading the moment they're manufactured, Exponent's Superior Serums are protected until they're activated – keeping the efficacy in – and the elements out. Exponent defies skincare "over-innovation," cutting through the clutter to give consumers the highest-functioning formulas that yield impressive clinical results with self-activated skincare made in an instant to keep clinically proven ingredients at their peak potency.

Upon first launching, Exponent unveiled a Superior Serum lineup including four different Active Powder formulas including Vitamin C, CoQ10, Green Tea + Resveratrol, and Probiotic + Enzyme blends – each of which offered targeted solutions for multiple skincare concerns when mixed with the Quadruple Hyaluronic Acid Hydrator.

For its next  launch, on July 14, 2022, Exponent will reveal its fifth Serum: Time Rewind Retinol, with age-defying powers ideal for achieving tighter, clearer, and more youthful looking skin. Time Rewind has been clinically proven to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, even skin tone and texture, and firm and smooth skin without irritation, resulting in 100% of test subjects showing clinically significant decreases in global facial fine lines and wrinkles, and 76% showing clinically significant increases in skin elasticity after four weeks.

As noted by Exponent Founder, Liz Whitman, "Retinol is the most fragile of the antioxidants, disappearing rapidly once exposed to light and air. It also has a reputation as irritating if too concentrated. We wanted our serums to not only deliver peak potency in every dose, but at an optimal concentration for clinically-proven decreases in fine lines and wrinkles without irritating the skin.

Liz began Exponent from an "AHA moment" while President & CMO of The Red Door by Elizabeth Arden, where top estheticians optimize precious active ingredients by mixing skincare fresh, in the moment for best results. This led her to question: how effective can pre-mixed retail skincare products be? After two years of researching hundreds of skincare products, including third-party testing on best-sellers, the conclusion became that skincare products, ironically, have an aging problem. She discovered that pre-bottled skincare can degrade up to 40% in just 8 weeks, ultimately rendering your skincare ineffective.

Exponent is backed by Founders Fund (Ritual, 8Sleep), Unilever Ventures (The Inkey List, Kopari Beauty, Saie), SugarCap (Starface, Snif), Flybridge Capital (Chief, Parachute) and Bullish (Harry's, Care/of); as well as strategic beauty industry execs and entrepreneurs. Such supporters include Sara and Erin Foster, who are advisors and investors in Exponent, both with track records of working with disruptive consumer brands (Bumble, Mirror).

Exponent prides itself on its commitment to sustainability –  holding its packaging to as high a standard as its ingredients, a practice that has earned the brand Certified B Corporation status prior to official launch, ideating and designing the innovative Exponent Self-Activator to be reusable and eliminating plastic waste with refills of both the Hydrator and Active Powders made out of infinitely recyclable glass and aluminum.

Exponent exists to not only provide the best-in-class, highest-performing skincare products, but to educate consumers on the science behind skincare and offer effective and practical solutions for all. The introductory Retinol Starter Kit (Self-Activator Globe + Dispenser, Self-Activator Base, Quadruple Hyaluronic Acid Hydrator Refill and Retinol Active Powder Refill) retails for $166. The brand also offers sustainable product refills for the Retinol Active Powder + Hydrator components: a separate Quadruple Hyaluronic Acid Hydrator Refill (90 doses) sells for $68, and a separate Retinol Active Powder Refill (45 doses) for $78.

MySummerChallenge.com Helps Parents Keep Their Teens and Pre-Teens Healthy and Active All Summer

Mysummerchallenge.com announces its six-week teen and pre-teen summer series titled My Summer Challenge, filled with inspiration and creative ways to keep kids active and motivated all summer long.  The program launches this Saturday July 16, 2022.

Kids Need Help Getting off all their Screens

It is not an exaggeration to say that there is an epidemic today for teens and pre-teens and that is their addiction to social media, online gaming, television programming and movies.  YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok have revolutionized the way kids think and interact; the downside is that they have made kids more observational rather than experiential – they observe others as they live their lives, but the teens and pre-teens have forgotten how to create their own memories and experiences. This has led to the unintended side-effects of passivity, social reclusiveness, and depression/anxiety.

Parents are at their wits end this summer and do not know how to help their kids be kids again.

My Summer Challenge to the Rescue

My Summer Challenge (www.mysummerchallenge.com) is launching this Saturday, July 16 and is a game-changer for parents, and their teen and pre-teenage kids.  My Summer Challenge is a six-week program designed help teens and pre-teens become more active in two areas: Mind and Motion.  With Mind, the participants receive weekly inspirational content (videos, interviews, articles) to inspire their imaginations and desire to become and do their very best.  Positive, inspirational, and motivational – all designed for teens and pre-teens.

With the Motion aspect of My Summer Challenge, teens and pre-teens are sent daily bursts of content all designed to help them be active, creative and engage with their friends more.  There are four different categories: Friendlys (tons of games and activities with friends), Creativities (inspiration to be creative in eight different categories from arts/craft to acting/singing to creating their own cooking or DIY show), Adventures (planning for those special weekly adventures with friends to places like the County Fair, the zoo, a beach excursion), and Fitness (multiple options each week to help kids be active and healthy, regardless of their skill or ability).

What makes My Summer Challenge so exciting is that the users are constantly encouraged to involve their friends and make memories together.  There is even a fun built-in weekly activity tracker that the kids use to amass as many points as possible through their activities and creativities.  And the users track their progress in their personal My Summer Challenge journals.

My Summer Challenge Host and Director: Scott Ross

Scott Ross is the founder and director of My Summer Challenge and the host for the six weeks of content.  Scott has over a decade of work leading teens and pre-teen programs, is an inspirational genius, funny, engaging and earns the respect of teens and pre-teens alike.

Dacha Beer Garden's™ Seventh Annual "Sour Liz" Event Highlights the Best "Pucker Up" Brews to Tickle Tastebuds

It's time to slather on lipstick, pucker up, and take a selfie at Dacha Beer Garden's Shaw location where the Seventh Annual "Sour Liz" Event is in full swing until July 20. Named for the iconic Elizabeth Taylor mural that seems to watch over the beer garden's festivities, "Sour Liz" features more than 14 rare, unusual, and notable sour brews from more than 10 participating breweries and ushers in the latest trend in craft beers, according to Dacha co-founder Dmitri Chekaldin.

"The sours are the fastest-growing beer category at the moment," said Chekaldin. "They are quickly growing in popularity and the varieties are continually multiplying. Everyone loves the bold flavors, but they particularly appeal to our female customers."

If the Sour Patch Kids had grown up, they would undoubtedly have a hard time choosing between some of the tart and sweet options such as Mustang Sally's Key Lime Imperial Sour Ale. Another treat for the senses is Caboose Brewing's Tangerine Gose with unmistakable notes of tangerine and tropical fruit flavors. For full-on sophistication or to show off in front of friends, there's the Rose City Sour from Cascade Brewing, described as "delicate aromas of fresh roses with notes of dried cranberries, pomegranates, and a hint of white pepper."

Other participating breweries with lip-curdling concoctions include Red Bear Brewing, Union Brewing, Caboose Brewing, Thin Man Brewery, Ithaca Brewing, Evolution Brewing, Solace Brewing, and 7 Locks Brewing.

According to Chekaldin, in addition to the sour beers' distinctive flavors, the fruit-laden beverages could also pack a powerful boost to the gut. "All of the sour brews are infused with probiotics, which are great for digestion and gut health," he explained. "It's an added benefit that makes these sour beers so interesting."

The "Sour Liz" Event runs at Dacha Beer Garden's Shaw location at 1600 Street NW location through July 20. Serious beer fans can join the Dacha Beer Club, a free reward-based program. Club members can earn prizes ranging from free appetizers to brewery tours and parties for friends on Dacha's tab. Beer Club will meet every Wednesday, a traditional release day for new, rare, and exciting beers. To find out more about Beer Club, visit dachadc.com
