Academy Software Foundation Adds OpenFX Image Processing Standard as Newest Hosted Project

The Academy Software Foundation – the motion picture industry's premier organization for advancing open source software development across image creation, visual effects, animation, and sound technologies – today announces OpenFX as its newest hosted project. First developed in 2004, OpenFX is a popular open source plugin standard that allows interoperability between image processing tools in the VFX industry.

Originally designed by Bruno Nicoletti, OpenFX serves as an open, extensible C API that defines an industry-wide common interface between image-based visual effects plugins and host applications. This makes it easier both for creative applications to support a variety of plug-ins, and for plug-in developers to support many host applications – reducing proprietary development and industry fragmentation. By creating an interoperable ecosystem of plugins, OpenFX has become the reference standard for visual effects and video processing software creators. Leading software solutions including Autodesk Flame, Foundry Nuke, Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve and Fusion, Sony Catalyst and MAGIX Vegas Pro, Assimilate Scratch, Filmlight Baselight, Boris FX Sapphire and Silhouette, RE:Vision Effects, and others support OpenFX commercial plug-ins. By allowing the same plugins to run on multiple editing, video processing, and VFX applications with little or no modification, OpenFX makes it easier for artists to access a wider set of tools.

"OpenFX is the work of smart engineers who focused on developing a standard for interoperability in the image-based software ecosystem. We are very happy to welcome them to the Foundation," shared David Morin, Executive Director of the Academy Software Foundation. "In a world where interoperability is more important than ever, OpenFX will contribute to our growing community, and benefit from the resources of the Academy Software Foundation."

OpenFX has previously been managed by the non-profit Open Effects Association, which will dissolve. Its existing directors  – Gary Oberbrunner, Pierre Jasmin, Peter Huisma, Dennis Adams, John-Paul Smith – will join the project's Technical Steering Committee at the Academy Software Foundation.

"We're very much looking forward to being part of the Academy Software Foundation and the added visibility and infusion of new ideas and contributors that go along with that," said Oberbrunner. "With the backing of the Foundation, we expect to be able to add new features more quickly, thereby enhancing the overall ecosystem for image-based VFX throughout the industry."

Currently on version 1.4, new features are already in the works for OpenFX version 1.5, anticipated for release later this year. Most notably, the team recently added an overlay draw suite so that the host application and the plugin can automatically negotiate and agree on the desired graphics API (e.g. OpenGL, DirectX, Vulkan, Metal or others).

Developers interested in learning more or contributing to OpenFX can visit https://tac.aswf.io/engagement/#OpenFX.

Companies interested in supporting the mission of the Academy Software Foundation can learn more and join at aswf.io/join.

Aku and Paper Planes Come Together for a First of its Kind Collaboration

Aku, the cryptonative NFT character created by artist and former professional athlete Micah Johnson, and Paper Planes, New York based fashion brand that combines culture and streetwear fashion, announce their collaboration to create a special edition, limited run of 350 Aku x Paper Planes 9Fifty Snapback hats, which will be available exclusively to Akutar holders.

The limited run Aku x Paper Planes 9Fifty Snapback Hat is black with a green undervisor, features the embroidered Paper Planes logo alongside Aku graphic details on the front, removable Paper Planes and Aku logo pins on the crown, and additional Aku artwork on the right side.

The original Paper Planes hat has become highly coveted within the streetwear community, often referred to as the "The Crown." The Aku x Paper Planes collaboration is significant as it is only the second Paper Planes crown in history to allow a partner's design to be featured alongside the Planes logo on the front of the hat, as past collaborations usually leave their imprint on the designated hallmark right side of the hat.

"Paper Planes and Aku both remind us to dream, and aim to inspire us with the confidence and patience to pursue greatness in achieving our dreams. We've been mission aligned from the beginning, and excited to be able to share the piece of history this collab will represent." - Summer Watson, President and Co-Founder of Aku.

Aku and Paper Planes first collaborated in December 2021 for Aku's Chapter 7: Candle following an organic "aha" moment between Paper Planes Co-Founder Emory Jones, Aku Co-Founder Summer Watson and Aku Creative Council founding member Upscale Vandal. The concept and seamless collaboration for this limited edition hat came together the very next day after Chapter 7's release.

Paper Planes joined a select group of partners for the April 2022 launch of Aku's PFP collection of 3D avatars, Akutars, where Paper Planes designed unique one-of-one Akutar designs and rare traits for the collection of 15,000 Akutars.

In June 2022, the 323 Akutar Paper Planes trait holders were airdropped a surprise NFT package, currently available on secondary markets such as OpenSea, which they will be able to redeem for the physical Aku x Paper Planes hat starting today.

Aku began as an NFT series based on its creator Micah Johnson's own experience of hearing a young boy ask if astronauts could be Black. The first set of NFTs launched as short videos that followed Aku, a young boy with an oversized space helmet that acts as a portal to his dreams and digital exploration. The 10-part series was released in 10 chapters from February 21, 2021 to February 21, 2022, generating over $24MM in sales to date. Aku Chapters were followed by the release of 15,000 unique 3D avatars, or Akutars, injecting an impactful image of a young, confident, Black boy in the social media profiles of crypto and culture enthusiasts alike.

PawCo Raises Seed Round, Launches World's First Plant-Based Pet Food

PawCo Foods officially launched their proprietary plant-based pet food and shipped their first batch of orders on August 3rd of 2022.

The company is founded by a former ImpossibleFoods employee and backed by a team of scientists and board certified animal nutritionists. PawCo invented the world's first fully plant-based meat that is designed specifically for pet foods. The team is committed to providing pets with complete and balanced plant-based meals.

"As a scientist, I couldn't stand seeing Paco, my beloved dog, eating unhealthy food every day. That's why I founded PawCo Foods – to change how our pets eat on a daily basis and make the world a greener place. I'm now dedicated to helping all of our furry friends out there to live a happy, healthy and joyful life" said Dr. Mahsa Vazin, Founder and CEO of PawCo Foods.

PawCo puts forward a plant-based meat that is just as tasty as traditional meat, while also providing all the essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals necessary for dogs to thrive. Traditional dog foods containing meat have been linked to numerous health issues in dogs, including cancer, allergies, and gastrointestinal distress. PawCo wants to improve pet health, decrease animal farming, and reduce the impact of pet food manufacturing on the environment by making tasty and nutritious plant-based dog food available in the market.

PawCo raised their seed round earlier this year and the team has been working on their proprietary plant-based meat. They publicly launched their first plant-based recipe for dogs today and they are accepting orders for new customers.

WEVOLVE Announces Second Annual Suicide Awareness Event

WEVOLVE, Detroit's leading suicide awareness initiative, announces its second self-titled event dedicated to fundraising for suicide and mental health awareness. The event will take place on August 12, 2022 from 4:00-8:00PM at one of the hottest new venues in Detroit, Spot Lite.

Designed as a pop-up art fundraiser, WEVOLVE came to life as an outlet for a community suffering from the loss of a friend, brother, and son – Deon Santiago. "Suicide creates this ripple effect of heartache that is difficult to describe if you haven't felt it," said Kelsey Hatley, Co-Founder of WEVOLVE. "WEVOLVE is a space for people to grieve, heal, and remember their loved ones in a positive way."

In August of 2021, WEVOLVE's inaugural event raised nearly $5,000 for Suck It Suicide, a non-profit dedicated to suicide prevention and providing support for families suffering from loss by suicide.

This year, WEVOLVE will benefit Mood Lifters, a local wellness program that is changing the way mental health resources can be accessed. Mood Lifters utilizes science-based strategies in peer-led groups to provide support for common mental health challenges. Art proceeds, event-related merchandise, and a portion of the venue's bar will go towards sponsoring community participation in their program.

WEVOLVE will host 20+ artists in a range of mediums, including photography, painting, and jewelry. Artists participating include Patricia Izzo, Loralee Grace, DaJanier Rice, and more. Sya Anderson will also be live painting for the evening. All artists are given the option to fully donate or split the profits from their work with the fundraiser. "We understand the value of each artists' work and want to provide opportunities for the creative community to grow in a sustainable way," said Hatley.

Spot Lite hosts a full bar and music for the evening, while Cairo Coffee is available until 6PM. Additionally, Corner Boy Cafe will be serving a fantastic dinner menu from 6:00-8:00PM.

In order to continue this mission, Bevel is proud to raise funds for Black Men Heal through the sale of a limited-edition T-Shirt designed in partnership with MESS in a Bottle. Exclusively available on GetBevel.com for $29.95,100% of the proceeds for the T-Shirt will be donated to Black Men Heal to enable the organization to continue raising awareness and saving lives.

SCM Talent Group Merges With Supply Chain Careers

A year after start-up, the partners at Supply Chain Careers (SCC) decided to compound their influence and join forces with SCM Talent Group, a supply chain recruiting firm started by SCC partner Rodney Apple. The merger brings a supply chain career-focused podcast, a supply chain job board, and a robust career development resource hub to the already formidable content base of SCM Talent Group. In addition to strengthening the supply chain career development resources, the new SCM Talent Group will expand its service offerings into fractional consulting for supply chain clients in need of interim executives and consultative leadership and guidance.

The move burnishes SCM Talent Group's expertise in supply chain talent with Rodney Apple's 20+ years of building out supply chain teams with Chris Gaffney's logistics & supply chain leadership experience as a former senior supply chain executive with Coca-Cola. Supply chain professor Mike Ogle rounds out the supply chain talent trifecta with his decades of academic and supply chain association leadership experience.

"When Rodney approached us with the idea, I don't think either of us hesitated. We knew that the fastest way to grow would be to take advantage of existing relationships and resources. We're really excited about the potential to serve a larger supply chain audience. The growth potential is intriguing and I'm really looking forward to meeting supply chain employers where they are and helping them to meet and exceed their goals," says Chris Gaffney.

Along with the consolidated content hub that will bring supply chain career advancement and development tools and resources, the supply chain careers podcast will also be migrated to SCM Talent Group. A new podcast series hosted by Chris Gaffney will launch with the merger as well. This leadership series is tailored towards budding executives, highlighting some of the most sought-after leadership tactics used by successful supply chain executives.

In addition to the content and podcasts, a supply chain job board will be part of the merge as well. This will allow supply chain hiring managers and talent professionals to post their supply chain openings to a job board that leverages an ever-expanding portfolio of supply chain career resources and digital marketing tactics to attract active and passive job seekers alike.

"The merging of SCM Talent Group and Supply Chain Careers creates one of the most unique career and talent service offerings in the supply chain marketplace. I am truly excited about partnering with Chris, Mike and our collective team to evolve our product and serving offerings that create value for supply chain employers, professionals and students", states Rodney Apple.

Genixus, a pharmaceutical company focused on transforming acute and critical care medicines, today announced that it has received both federal registration and state licensing to begin commercial production of its new KinetiX™ RTA Platform brand of pre-filled syringes. The company recently received federal 503B and Repackaging registration from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration under the Human Drug Outsourcing Facilities of the FD&C Act and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP), in addition to North Carolina Drug Manufacturing and Repackaging licensure.

The federal registration and state licensing at its state-of-the-art facility in Kannapolis, NC will enable Genixus to initiate commercialization of the KinetiX™ RTA Platform of pre-filled syringe medications beginning later this year. Driven by quality, simplicity, and transparency, the KinetiX™ RTA Platform is designed to deliver clinical tools that seamlessly integrate into the acute and critical care setting.

"With advanced manufacturing leveraging our experience in biologics and innovative delivery systems, the KinetiX™RTA Platform will feature products that apply critical thinking to every stage of the care journey, ensuring our products integrate seamlessly with healthcare processes and workflows," said Kendall Foster, Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Genixus. The federal registration and state licensure builds on the momentum from previous investments in the Kannapolis manufacturing facility, including new cleanrooms, support areas, and testing labs.

World-renowned artist and brand Jumper Maybach has signed new best-in-class partners to an ever-growing list of organizations that share the brand's mission of ending hate. Jumper Maybach is one of the most thought provoking and inclusive artists and brands of our generation. In the past year, the brand has partnered with six distinct companies in an effort to expand their product line across multiple consumer retail segments through the artwork, as well as bring new audiences to the brand and mission. These global partnerships offer a unique opportunity for brands to target new markets, expand their customer base, and work with a company which aligns with their vision.

All of the new products have been inspired by Jumper Maybach's abstract paintings which have been exhibited around the world, hanging in galleries and museums from Paris to Miami to Dubai. The Jumper Maybach brand is excited to announce partnerships with the following brands: BIG LOViE, Ahdorned, OPR Eyewear, V. Fraas, Ioconic and Proformmat. It was there that the Artist received a documentary film deal and was dubbed the "Jackson Pollock of the 21 Century". Shortly after Art Dubai, Maybach had the opportunity to exhibit 39 large pieces of work in Venice, Italy and was invited to exhibit his art at the Galerie Du Louvre in Paris. Scuti Launches First Ever Gamified Ad Units for Video Games

Scuti, the industry pioneer in gCommerce, today announced a new, patent-pending ad unit for game makers. Rewarded Gamified Interstitials, or RoGIs, will be available to players and games across web2 and web3, allowing for a seamless gaming experience that offers players real-life rewards, uninterrupted gameplay, and targeted advertisements based on player-provided information.

The team that built Massive Inc. and pioneered in-game advertising almost 20 years ago has led the creation of Scuti's RoGIs with input and guidance from the executives behind some of the biggest games on the planet including Fortnite, HALO and World of Warcraft.

Today, gaming is a global community of 3.2 billion people, including 80% of Gen Z and millennials and 75% of all US households. Mobile games are a growing sector in the games industry and reach players with more than $5 trillion in buying power. Scuti's platform offers brands and game makers a new vehicle for building loyalty with this audience.

"For our global brand clients, Scuti stands out with its gCommerce platform," said Andrew Backs, CEO and Founder of Pilot44, a global digital innovation agency. "With the addition of RoGIs, brands can have further positive impact on game play. Players seek out rewards and accomplishments from their games and now brands can reward play with the payoff of access, engagement and sales."

RoGIs are brief shell games delivered to players between game levels. Players can elect to play with the ads or continue with their game – it's their choice. RoGIs gamify advertising, rewarding players with Scuti$for each ad interaction. Scuti$ can be redeemed for real products in the Scuti Marketplace, exchanged for in-game items and game currencies.

Scuti allows players to opt-in and provide basic personal information to ensure the RoGIs offer a bespoke set of brands and products most relevant to player interests. Scuti never uses information not explicitly provided by the player in curating RoGIs, aiming to create a transparent relationship between the platform, gamer, and brands. RoGis comply with recent guideline changes for Google Play apps and are also compliant with Apple's App Store regulations.

"We believe RoGIs are an important step for game makers, players, and brands across the board," said Nicholas Longano, CEO and Founder of Scuti. "As we enter a new era of engagement, brands must meet consumers where they are and how they want to be met – on their terms, and those terms require a fair value exchange. Gone are the days of ads disrupting and distracting from gameplay, using deceptive tactics to cull player interests for hyper-targeted advertising. Instead, gamified advertisements will reward players, brands, and game-makers alike.
