CHICAGO, IL -- JD Lawrence, an acclaimed playwright and the creator of the Bravo network's hit show "Your Husband is Cheating On Us," has suffered a minor stroke and brain damage. Lawrence was admitted to Stonybrook Hospital's ICU on January 7, 2023, where he remained for ten days. He is now in rehabilitation and is in good spirits, eager to return to work.

At the time of his incident, Lawrence was working on a documentary fundraiser called Saving Hunter Squires Jackson Post 1218, which focuses on a veterans' post in his hometown of Amityville. The post, which was originally established as an all-black veterans' post due to segregation, will continue to be filmed with Lawrence remaining as the writer, director, and executive producer.

In addition to the documentary, Lawrence is also casting and producing The Block and JD Lawrence's Shop Life in Amityville. The play is inspired by Scissors, which was involved in a decade-long legal battle with the iconic Barbershop franchise.

With a career that includes two Telly Awards, a Grammy, an Emmy, a Guinness World Record for playing the most characters in a one-man show, and an NAACP Legacy Award, Lawrence is expected to make a full recovery.
